Oven Thermometer

Shows the oven's real temperature, not the dial's.

A small thermometer that sits or hangs inside the oven to show the actual temperature. Home ovens often run hotter or cooler than the dial says, and some have hot spots. Knowing the real number explains a lot of pale crusts, burnt bottoms, and loaves that bake slower than the recipe says.

  • Move it around to different racks and spots once. You'll learn where your oven runs hot, and that's worth knowing.
