Marquis Wheat

/ˈmɑːr.kwɪs/

Canadian hard red spring wheat bred from Red Fife.

A Canadian hard red spring wheat bred from a Red Fife cross and released in the early 1900s. It ripened earlier than Red Fife, which suited the short Canadian prairie season, and it became a widely grown bread wheat in Canada and the northern US. Today it's grown mostly as a heritage variety with good baking strength.
