Starter Jar

The container your sourdough starter lives in.

The container you keep your sourdough starter in. A good one has a wide mouth for stirring and feeding, straight sides so you can see the rise, and a lid that rests loosely so gas can escape. Glass lets you see the bubbles and the level, which tells you when the starter has peaked.

Henry's notes from the bench

  • Put a rubber band around the jar at the level right after feeding. Then you can see at a glance how far it's risen.
